Performance Art by Shiraz Amar and Rachel Ben-David

trailer by Yasmine Scheft

Inspired by Ohad Zarhi and Mordechai Gafni’s eponymous book, Who’s Afraid of Lilith is a “study-show” of two women who dive together into the intricacies of femininity and the various myths wrapped around it. The show deals with the tension between liberation and domestication and explores the split woman archetype: the “good girl” – submissive, obedient – versus the “femme fatale” – the seductive, sexual and liberated woman; the presentation of this dichotomy aims at asking whether and how the familiar model can be shattered. From a personal perspective and with silenced words, the creators – dancer and choreographer Shiraz Amar and theater, performance and cinema creator Rachel Ben David – appropriate various religious rituals and give them an additional interpretation, exploring forces that, according to them, “cast terror within us.”

Initiated by Guy Bernard Reichmann and led by CCA - Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv-Yafo Operations Manager Amy Sapan, “out-of-office” is a series of events to be presented in the Marc Schimmel Multipurpose Gallery. Focused on time-based practices such as video, dance, and performance, and in line with the multidisciplinary mission of the Center, “o-o-o” was conceived as a way to nurture the domestic scene.

The piece was created by Rachel Ben David and Shiraz Amar; rehearsal management and direction by Amnon Peled; artistic accompaniment by Amit Zarka; set and costume design by Abigail Rose; original sound design by Sahara Zina.

The performance contains nudity.

Who’s Afraid of Lilith is supported by Mifal HaPais – Council for the Culture and Arts and the CCA Center for Contemporary Art Tel-Aviv.
